After several years of finally having a home to call their own, mutants are about to be hunted again. We don't know what exactly that status quo involves yet, but it appears to involve the destruction of Krakoa and the scattering of the mutant race across the globe. This issue serves as the beginning of a new status quo called Fall of X. However, there's an even bigger reason to check out this year's Hellfire Gala. As with the previous two Hellfire Gala one-shots, this issue will reveal the results of Marvel's fan vote and the revamped X-Men roster. Once again, the mutant nation of Krakoa is throwing a lavish ball, and everyone who's anyone in the Marvel Universe is attending in their finest attire. It's become an annual tradition for Marvel's X-Men line to ring in the summer with a Hellfire Gala one-shot. World’s Finest: Teen TitansĬreative Team: Gerry Duggan & Various Artists

That alone may justify a read for many Sandman fans. Knight Terrors looks to scratch a similar itch as 2017's Dark Nights: Metal, and like that series, it even delves into the mythology of the Sandman franchise. Ideally, that means you can read as much or as little as you want. There will also be a great many tie-ins in the form of the prologue issue Knight Terrors: First Blood and various two-issue companion books focused on the many characters trapped in their nightmares.

The main Knight Terrors story is chronicled in a four-issue series from writer Joshua Williamson and artist Giuseppe Camuncoli. For Joker, that means languishing at a 9-5 desk job in a world with no Batman. For Batman, that means transforming into a gun-toting, demonic orphan child. This storyline begins with the death of a major Justice League villain and sees the rise of Insomnia, a powerful being who ensnares heroes and villains alike inside their own nightmares.
